Well Pump Selection 4 Tricks
If you have a private water well, this article is for you if you feed your houses and lands with the water you supply from this well. Well pump selection is a subject that requires technical equipment and experience. A wrongly selected submersible pump does not work properly and increases the cost.

Pumps made of quality materials have a lifespan of 15 to 25 years, but choosing the wrong pump can reduce this period to 1 day. If you are thinking of replacing the well pump you have or choosing a new well pump, continue reading carefully.
1- How Deep is the Well?
The pump you use depends on the depth of the well. The maximum immersion depth of each pump is different.
- Digging well : If you dig a well by hand or if you have a small diameter well, you can use Centrifugal Pump in wells up to 6 meters deep.
- Centrifugal pumps are single and double stage mechanical pumps used in irrigation areas. These pumps, which are frequently needed especially in field areas, are also used in booster duty thanks to the excess water flow rate they provide.
- Medium-sized Well: You can use Jet Pump in wells between 6-10 meters. They are also used in field and garden irrigation, their advantage over other pumps is that they are deep suction pumps that can suction up to 9 meters. Since they give more pressurized water than centrifugal pumps, they are mostly used as booster pumps…
- Deep Well: In wells deeper than 10 meters, depending on the diameter of the well Caisson Well Pumps or Deep Well Submersible Pumpscan be preferred.
Caisson Well Pump Selection, How It Works
A caisson well is a type of well that is drilled by lowering a cylindrical box made of concrete as the bottom is excavated and repeating the same process by placing a new one on top and is mostly applied to sandy soils. We can call them the large wells in the gardens we often encounter in the past.
Caisson well pumps are float pumps designed for use in these wells. Their diameters are wider than deep well pumps. The head varies between 10 mss and 40 mss.
What is a Deep Well Submersible Pump?
Unlike caisson wells, deep wellsare narrow and deep wells drilled by drilling.
Deep well submersible pumps are submersible pumps sent into the well. These pumps allow the water in the well to be extracted. The water taken out of the well can then be used for various purposes.
Based on the above information, first decide what kind of pump you need!
2- How many meters high will the pump pump water?
If the selection of the well pump is finished, the second step is how high the water will be pumped. For example, you will supply water from a well for the irrigation system of a field. You immersed your pump 5 meters deep.
When the pumping height of the pump is 5 meters, it will only pump water up to the outlet of the well. A calculation should be made in the form of 5 + 10 meters if it is 10 meters by measuring the area to be irrigated in the field.
If there is a slope in the field, the compression loss should also be calculated.
3-How Much Water Is Needed?
In general, when installing irrigation systems, the number of tons of water per hour is calculated for the well pump selection. Liquid flow rate is related to how many tons of water is needed per hour.
4- What kind of electricity will be used?
In our country, 220 volt single phase, i.e. 380 volt three-phase, i.e. industrial electricity is also used together with household electricity. The electricity to be used for the operation of the pump should be known and the well pump should be selected accordingly.
You will have made a narrower filtering with your answers to the 4 main questions above. After this process, you can reach the most accurate result by deciding on the brand and pipe connection diameter.
With your answers to the questions above, you can easily filter the right pump.
Submersible Well Pump Prices
Submersible pumps sold in our country vary according to the dollar and euro exchange rate, as they are generally imported products. But it is possible to find more economically priced domestic products.
Apart from the brand, other factors affecting the price for well pump selection are related to the capacity and power of the pumps. Factors such as immersion depth, discharge height, engine power affect the price. Kampa has 4 seasonal campaigns for you to find the most suitable well pump prices.
