Top 6 Questions About Water Pumps
We examine the most common questions about water pumps from our call center and live support line.
Table of Contents
In addition to the standard questions used in pump selection, we realized that there are 6 different questions arising from common mistakes. In this article, we will try to answer the 6 most frequently asked questions about water pumps.
Does the suction power of the pump increase when horsepower increases in water pumps?
Answer: No. Garden irrigation pumps have a certain capacity, centrifugal pumps can suction from a depth of max. 6 meters, jet pumps can suction from a depth of max. 9 meters.
On the other hand, injector pumps can suction from a depth of max. 40 meters. Depending on the type of pump, a 0.5 hp or 5 hp pump will suction from the same depth.
For example; Pedrollo CPm 130 0.5 HP single impeller centrifugal pump and Pedrollo CP 250B-N 10 HP Single Impeller Centrifugal Pump can suction from a maximum depth of 6 meters.
As the HP of Water Pumps increases, does it give more water?
Answer: No. There is no direct connection between the flow rate of the pump and the power of the motor. There are different factors that increase the flow rate of the pump such as the structure of the impellers, the type of pump, the stage.
For example; 1 hp centrifugal pump has more flow rate, while 1 hp jet pump has more pressure. Therefore, it is not correct to connect the flow rate only to HP.
Does the discharge pressure increase when the hose is thinner?
Answer: No. A thin hose causes loss of efficiency due to high friction loss. A larger diameter hose is always better.
Can Injector Pumps be operated without water at first start-up? Or how is the first start-up done?
Answer: No. Injector pumps must be filled with water at the first start-up. An injector pump and especially centrifugal types need some water in their bodies to start the self-priming movement.
These pumps are difficult to use. If possible, we recommend using a submersible pump.
Can I use a smaller hose for the pump suction?
Answer: No. You cannot use a smaller hose for pump suction. The small hose will cause your pump to fail and fail in a short time.
Do you have a pump?
Answer: Yes, we have about 7500 pumps.
But the question is an incomplete question! What kind of pump do you need, where will you use it? We can help you better if you ask us these questions.
For example; “I have a small garden. I need a pump that suctions from 10 meters for water supply from the well. Do you have such a pump?”
